Being a Tiger Cub Scout, this was Jack's first opportunity to compete in a Pinewood Derby. He had to do most of the work in creating the car, but, as you can see, he had two great assistants to help him. His Daddy helped him learn lots of physics, make a design, build it, and paint it. For some of the process, they needed to visit the guy who has all the tools - Grandpa. This was the perfect team for building a great pinewood derby car. In this photo, they are polishing the axles to reduce friction.
This is the finished product. It is number 514 because Jack's birthday is on the 5th and Daddy's is on the 14th. The kit came with a rectangular block of wood with four nails and plastic wheels. So the finished product is drastically different from what it started out as. This is one cool, fast car!
Jack got first place for the Tiger Cub Scouts!!! It is only a 30 foot long track, so the difference between race times comes down to the hundredths of a second. Thanks to his precision engineering, Jack came out on top. Way to go Jack!!!!
